He was once a man...now he's a "hell-spawn," battling the forces of evil
on Earth -- and in himself. Using his strange powers, he fights to
uncover the truth about his identity and fulfill his destiny. One of the
comic book industry's most popular and intriguing characters, Spawn
explodes on the screen in a maelstrom of fantastic imagery with action,
romance, and high-level espionage.
Debuting in the spring of 1997 on HBO, Todd McFarlane's Spawn was
HBO Animation's first endeavor into the world of ink and paint. The
story diverted somewhat from the comics roots, but kept the main
elements intact. While some characters were replaced with others (Jade
in the place of Angela), the series kept fans of the comic and animation
genre enthralled for three years before the series came to a close.
Proving too costly to produce, Todd McFarlane's Spawn ended after
three short seasons, eighteen episodes in all, but picked up plenty of
fans along the way.
The entire series has been released on VHS and DVD and continues to move
units to this day. Nearly a decade after Todd McFarlane's Spawn
ended, Spawn: The Animation is slated to debut in the fall of
2006 and pick up the story of Todd McFarlane's Spawn years after
Spawn declared I want my humanity back.
